Training Tip- 5 reasons to try yoga

Yoga is awesome for the spine. Receommended by Chiro in Birsbane CBDWhether you are an endurance athlete, weight lifter or simply looking to improve your health and fitness routine I highly recommend trying yoga. As a chiropractor I believe that yoga is not only fantastic for the spine and body but also the mind as well. Here are 5 great reasons to give yoga a try!

  1. Yoga offers a focused time to stretch and mobilse your body. I believe the majority of people don’t spend enough time stretching and mobilising pre and post workout (myself included!). Attending a yoga class provides a dedicated 45-120 minutes of stretching. If you train hard, attending 1-2 yoga classes each week will offer your body some much needed active recovery.
  1. Yoga is a great workout. If the gym isn’t really your thing or you want a low impact full body workout without using heavy weights or resistance then yoga is an awesome option. Yoga can be adapted for beginners to very experienced yogis and can also be done at home, at a yoga studio or at the gym. So it is very easy to adapt to your routine, lifestyle and fitness level.
  1. Yoga helps you get in touch with your body. The breathing techniques and postures in yoga are designed to deepen the connection between mind and body. Regular yoga practice can be a great way to connect with how the body is feeling and functioning.
  1. Stress Reduction- A huge part of yoga is the importance of breath and breathing well. This centred approach to breathing assists with stress reduction and overall wellbeing.
  1. Assists with good spine health and alignment- Yoga postures and poses can provide a safe and effective way to assist with maintaining good spine health, posture and range of motion. Yoga can help keep your spine and body mobile and functioning well!
