FAQs – Health Insurance & Rebates

One of the most common questions we get is: “Will my health insurance cover this?” The short answer is yes, for most extras policies. Here’s everything you need to know about claiming chiropractic at Dynamic Chiropractic in Brisbane CBD.

Q: Does private health insurance cover chiropractic?

Yes, under most extras policies. How much you get back depends on your fund and the tier of cover you’re on. If you’re not sure, check your app or call your fund – they can tell you exactly what’s covered and whether a waiting period applies.

Q: Do you accept Medibank at Dynamic Chiropractic?

Yes. We’re HICAPS registered, so Medibank members can claim straight from the counter after their appointment. You just pay the gap – no receipts to chase up later.

Q: Which health funds do you accept?

All the major ones: Medibank, BUPA, HCF, NIB, AHM, Australian Unity, HBF, and more.

Q: How does HICAPS work?

You swipe your health fund card at the counter after your appointment. The system checks your entitlement, deducts the rebate, and you pay the gap. The whole thing takes about 30 seconds. No receipts, no forms, no claiming apps.

Q: How much will I get back from my health fund?

It varies. Medibank and BUPA extras members on a standard policy typically get back $30–$50 per appointment. Higher-tier cover pays more. New patient appointments are $98, follow-ups are $69, so on a standard policy you’re usually looking at $15–$60 out of pocket after the rebate.

Q: Do I need a referral to claim chiropractic on private health insurance?

No. Book directly, claim at the time of your appointment. That’s it.

Q: Is chiropractic covered under Medicare?

Not normally. Standard chiropractic isn’t a Medicare item. The exception is if your GP has put you on a Chronic Disease Management plan – that can give you up to 5 Medicare-rebated allied health visits per year. Ask your GP if you think you might qualify.

Q: Do I have a waiting period before I can use my extras?

Some policies have a 2–6 month waiting period for chiropractic – that’s set by your fund, not us. If you’ve recently taken out extras cover, check with your fund before booking so there’s no surprise at the counter.

Q: Can I claim chiropractic on the same day I join?

Depends on the fund and policy. Most apply a waiting period, but a few same-day cover products exist. Your fund will know.

Q: What if I don’t have private health insurance?

Plenty of our patients pay out of pocket. New patients pay $98 for 30 minutes, follow-ups are $69. No hidden fees. If cost is a concern, just say so at your first appointment and we can talk through a realistic plan.
