Posture tips for upper back pain

Poor desk set up and long hours in a stationary position tend to generate tension and pain in the upper back. Here are some posture tips to assist with the prevention of upper back pain.

  1. Make sure computer screens are on a monitor and at eye level. Having to look down at screens can lead to hunching over the computer and cause upper back problems.
  2. Find a good chair that allows you to maintain a neutral spine when sitting. If the chair you sit in is forcing your spine into an unnatural position it will be difficult to maintain a good posture.
  3. Get up and move around the office frequently. Sitting in one position for long periods of time is very harmful for your body. If you can move around the office every 60 minutes this will go a long way to helping maintain a good posture.
  4. Move or exercise at least 3 times a week. Movement such as a 30 minute walk or gym session a couple of times a week is so beneficial for you body. Regular exercise will go a long way to breaking up repetitive posture patterns, allowing blood to flush out tight muscles and keep your joints and connective tissue supple.
